A progression track that builds directly on our kids program and carries straight into adult classes: real technique, real accountability, real confidence.
Today's world keeps getting tougher for teens. At 1MR, it's our goal to create a safe and encouraging environment where they can learn self-defense, discipline, and confidence without being ridiculed for their mistakes. That sense of identity boosts their confidence, resulting in more assertiveness when dealing with the high-pressure situations they face daily.
Our classes are an excellent way for teens to connect with peers who share similar goals and standards. By expanding their network with positive influences, they build accountability and social skills alongside real technique.
The teenage years are a critical time in a kid's personal development. It's important for teens to learn acceptable boundaries for their behavior so they can build the habits they need to become a functional adult. Martial arts teaches this kind of self-discipline through the tradition and etiquette of the practice.
Teens feel a sense of belonging as they train in an environment that's encouraging and non-judgmental, building confidence through positive reinforcement as they keep challenging themselves and hitting new goals.

1MR St. Petersburg already has an active tournament team. Kids who've earned their way onto it represent the gym in real competitions. That's the kind of program this is: built for real progress, not just participation.
Learning to work effectively as part of a team.
Improved coordination and a great form of exercise.
Habits that prevent burnout and carry into adult life.
Martial arts is excellent exercise. The discipline teens build here helps them stick with fitness for the rest of their lives.
Controlling emotions in social situations is hard for many teens. Martial arts builds self-control through control of the body, a skill that carries into adulthood.
Respect for coaches, classmates, and self is central to the practice, and it promotes real dignity and wellbeing.
All students are treated equally and work with a wide range of training partners, building a real sense of accomplishment.

1MR's kids program runs ages 4โ17, split by age group so development stays age-appropriate at every stage. This lets each group progress at a rate suitable for their level, and keeps the whole program cohesive socially.
At this age, it's less about pushing and more about listening: ask your teen what they want to get out of training, not just what you hope they'll get out of it. Every teen here is met where they are, and their own goals matter as much as their parents'.
Teen classes build accountability, resilience, and self-esteem alongside real self-defense skill: drills, simulated sparring, and strength and conditioning work. It's a noticeably more serious, adult-adjacent training environment than the younger age groups.
It helps far more than it puts anyone on the spot. Coaches build teens up gradually. Nobody's forced into the spotlight before they're ready, and for a lot of quiet teens, having a structured, judgment-free place to push themselves is exactly what builds confidence back up.
Memberships are flexible, based on your commitment length and how many classes per month work for your family. To get the most out of the program (real progress and consistency), we recommend training at least 3 times a week.
You'll get an email with instructions to schedule, and a coach will follow up to help book a time that works for your family.
Training includes real technique and controlled partner work under coach supervision, always focused on skill-building and control, not unsupervised fighting.
No experience needed. Teens train alongside others at every stage, including those moving up from our Ages 9โ14 program.
Yes, the Teens program is designed as a progression track that continues naturally into 1MR's adult classes.
