This program will help your child develop essential skills they can apply to every area of life, while having a blast and making new friends.
This program runs on the same belt and stripe system as every 1MR class (White through Black, four stripes per belt), so every kid always knows exactly what they're working toward next.
Martial arts puts a consistent focus on self-restraint, a skill that doesn't always come naturally to kids used to instant gratification.
Training alongside peers who share a common interest makes it easier for kids to open up and build real friendships.
An hour of movement, structure, and fun gives kids an alternative to screen time that they genuinely look forward to.
Our belt and stripe system gives kids a clear next step, teaching them what it feels like to work toward something and earn it.
Confidence builds with every new move mastered and every stripe earned. Kids feel that progress is real and theirs.
Respect for coaches, teammates, and the space is part of every class, a lesson that carries home and into school.
Kids learn that the real skill is staying calm and using their words first, not looking for a fight.
Advancing through the belt ranks takes real listening, a skill that transfers directly to the classroom.
From partner drills to group challenges, kids learn that most wins in the gym, and in life, happen together.
It's a lot, watching your kid get older so fast. Every parent asks the same questions: Are they ready to socialize with new classmates? Will they stay focused and keep up?
This program is designed to strengthen your child's ability to pay attention and follow directions, a skill that shows up in their schoolwork almost right away.
Parenting shouldn't be a stressful task you face alone. Let 1MR Kid's Martial Arts Academy help equip your child for success.
The foundation of the curriculum for Ages 4โ8 is the education and development of life skills: positive mental attitude, high goal setting, perseverance, self-control, and confidence.

1MR St. Petersburg already has an active tournament team. Kids who've earned their way onto it represent the gym in real competitions. That's the kind of program this is: built for real progress, not just participation.
Learning to work effectively as part of a team.
Improved coordination and a great form of exercise.
Building routines early that last a lifetime.

1MR's kids program runs ages 4โ17, split by age group so development stays age-appropriate at every stage. This lets each group progress at a rate suitable for their level, and keeps the whole program cohesive socially.
Your child's first class starts gently. A coach introduces them to the group, walks them through the basics of the space and the routine, and pairs them with a buddy so they're never figuring it out alone. The goal on day one is comfort and fun, not performance.
At this age, the biggest thing you can do is praise effort, not results. Notice when they try something hard, not just when they get it right. A consistent schedule and staying encouraging, rather than coaching from the sidelines, helps them build confidence at their own pace.
Classes at this age move fast and stay fun: lots of games, shorter segments, and a strong focus on listening skills, focus, and following directions. Coaches work at a higher ratio to kids here, with lots of buddy work and hands-on coaching rather than long instruction.
Yes, this is one of the most common starting points we see. Coaches are trained to bring quiet kids in gently, pairing them with a buddy and building trust before ever asking them to lead or perform in front of others.
Every class runs 45 minutes, with the same rhythm at every age: a warm-up focused on coordination, agility, and strength; technical bag work and striking combinations; a changing portion (partner drills, footwork, challenges, games); and a coach talk to close things out. There's mental and physical work woven through the whole thing, not just tacked on at the end.
Memberships are flexible, based on your commitment length and how many classes per month work for your family. To get the most out of the program (real progress and consistency), we recommend training at least 3 times a week.
You'll get an email with instructions to schedule, and a coach will follow up to help book a time that works for your family.
