Most parents shopping for a kids’ martial arts program ask about price and schedule first. Reasonable, but not the questions that actually predict whether a child sticks with it past month two. Here are the ones that do:
- How are classes split by age, and what happens if my child is right on the edge of a bracket?
- What’s the belt system actually measuring: time enrolled, or skill and character?
- What happens on a child’s first day if they’ve never done anything like this before?
- How do coaches handle a child who acts out or refuses to participate?
- Is there a cap on new students per month, or will my child be one of forty new faces?
- What happens if we start mid-month or mid-belt? Will my child feel behind?
- Can I watch a class before enrolling, not just tour an empty room?
The answers reveal more about a program’s real philosophy than any brochure. At 1MR, enrollment is rolling and intake is capped monthly on purpose, not to create scarcity, but so new kids get real coach attention integrating into the system instead of getting lost in a crowd. Belts are earned through demonstrated character and skill, not simply time on the calendar.
If a program can’t answer these seven clearly, that’s information too. Book a trial class at our St. Petersburg location where you can watch (not just hear about) how a coach actually handles a room of real kids.
